Maybe you have asked "Can I get herpes In My Mouth?" or you've heard someone ask "Can You Get Herpes In Your Mouth?" On this page we'll answer this question and give some information.
Fact: You Can Get Herpes In Your Mouth
The herpes virus, particularly oral herpes (HSV-1) typically shows up on or around the lips. However, herpes can show up on the roof of the mouth, the tongue, inside the lips and inside the cheeks. Generally, outbreaks away from the lips are less severe.
If you have massive sores throughout your mouth, you should see a doctor immediately as this is likely not herpes. Oral herpes in the mouth tends to show up in isolated locations.
It is possible, although much more rare, to have HSV-2 (type 2 herpes, commonly known as genital herpes) occur in the mouth. Genital herpes does not prefer to live in the nerve glands near your ear (which is where oral herpes lives and then manifests itself as sores near the lips), but it is nevertheless still possible for HSV-2 to produce a herpes outbreak within the mouth.
While there is no herpes cure, if you have frequent, severe or otherwise intolerable herpes outbreaks, you can see your doctor about some medicines that can reduce the severity and frequency of your herpes outbreaks.
